Green Slime Shop is pleased to present, as part of our OnTour series, this The Cure t-shirt from their 1985 UK tour presenting their single Close To Me and their LP The Head on the Door. To illustrate this t-shirt we have chosen the drawing of the American ep Quadpus, which curiously is the one chosen by many promoters to announce The Cure’s tour, using the fonts of the Close to Me single and mixing them with The Cure’s logo that can be seen on the cover of The Head on The Door.

The summer of 1985, when this tour takes place, was an important time for The Cure, as they stopped being an important alternative band and became a stadium and arena band thanks to hits like Close to me or In between days that could be played on any music compilation of the 80s.
The Cure left behind a creatively rich period with its own character that ended in 1983 with the departure of Simon Gallup and two turbulent and undefined years for the group where first as a Smith-Tolhurst duo and then with a more stable line-up, they gradually went from strength to strength with catchy singles and an album, The Top, quite irregular, preparing the band for what was to come at the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s and which made them a successful band.
